Misanthropy: hatred of mankind; a disposition to dislike and mistrust other people – wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Okay, that’s not completely true. But there’s a combination of disappointment in mankind and a certain amount of mistrust. I think the disappointment actually comes from my optimism. How else could someone be so frequently frustrated with other people if she wasn’t expecting them to make better decisions to begin with?

Misanthropy does not necessarily imply an inhumane or sociopathic attitude towards humanity and on the contrary is generally a reaction to the observed prevalence of these and other backward properties of the present state of the human race.

I’m a thirty-something east coast transplant, the daughter of a Navy officer, and I live in one of Indianapolis, Indiana’s, most established neighborhoods. The yards are full of sparkling green lawns and Craftsman-style homes. But I rent a townhouse because I can’t afford a $450,000 mortgage at this point, nor do I think I ever will. Mostly because I’m a full time student getting my BA in – gasp! – English. You might not realize that from the writing, but it’s true. I’m still learning.

I work full time at a local coffee shop while I’m in school and frequently detail my frustrations with our weird customers. I’ve been employed there now for about 4 years, almost all of my college career.

I have five kids – two dogs, two cats, and one little girl named Beatrice June born June 25th, 2009 – and my partner. So, not only am I involved in the patriarchal concept of a male-female partnership  and “marriage,” but I’m now also a member of the breeding club.

What’s happened to me?

    Hi Courtney!
You rock. Your embroidery bee looks like a ton of fun. I would love to post it on the sublime stitching blog. Would it be okay to use the photo / link to your site? NBD either way. Thanks! http://www.sublimestitching.com/blog.html
