Our Latest Newest Vintage Cabinet We’re giving away two bookshelves and are now officially selling our end tables and the Roomba today, which will pay for our cabinet from Midland Antiques and this little guy, who we found on CraigsList for a whopping $40. Charlie drove out on Monday and picked it up. It’s just a fun, solid piece that we’re keeping some more of his/our figures (there’s lots more on the opposite wall) and football cards that seem to just take up space elsewhere in the house.

We moved the chrome shelf from downstairs (where the big cabinet now lives) upstairs into the sunroom (which used to have the spare bed that’s now in the room that used to have the TV — are you following this? There will be a quiz later). The sunroom is now a sort-of library/study area. Once we get Matt to take the shelves and find a nice chair at a thrift store.

Yesterday was my first class – an advanced editing course. The instructor was a cute little middle-aged man who looks exactly like you’d expect an English professor to look like. He had on a maroon button-down with an old green sweater and khaki pants. One thing he made clear: this course has a tendency to be monotonous unless you enjoy editing people’s writing. Oh, boy, do I!

I really do. And it seems like it’s going to be pretty practical course, especially for anyone who is interested in copy editing, since they’ll have to take the Chicago Manual of Style examy-thing.

I’ll be in that class twice a week, but on Thursdays I’ll also have three hours in literary journalism. One neat thing is that Charlie gets out at of his second class 15 minutes before mine starts, in the same building, on the same floor. We got to stop and have a chat. I realize this shouldn’t be a big deal, seeing as how we live together, but with my working at 5 in the morning and him getting home about that time, we aren’t in the same place at the same time a lot.

I have yet another course, online, which is Abnormal Psychology. We have pre-recorded audio lectures to listen to, hundreds of pages of text to read each week, and five exams that we have to schedule on-campus, plus a final that everyone enrolled in that course has to take at the same time. I’m wondering if I didn’t get ahead of myself, trying to pull up my GPA so I could get in the difficult-to-get-into classes like this. It’s one of two honors courses that I’m in this semester and I feel like I might have gotten in over my head.

Two of my former literacy classmates are in each of my on-campus classes, so it will be nice to see a familiar face. I guess that kind of goes with the territory. I’m finally a junior, finally taking advanced courses in my major, and I will no doubt continue to run in to people I’ve seen before.

Does Dr. Davis teach your editing course? If so you’re lucky; he is really great!

You started this week, huh? I start back on Tuesday. I am very excited. Ok, let’s take that down to just excited. I wouldn’t mind your schedule. Those classes sound FUN! Seriously.

I love the new bookshelf-you find the best stuff. I need you to help me shop. :)

Go ahead and fail me for the quiz. I got lost after $40…

I love the bookshelf too. Isn’t Midland the best? Vanessa and I have been eyeing a hutch for our dining room there for about a year. Our problem is that we can never commit to anything used that costs more than $200. The hutch we’re looking at is around $500 and totally worth that. I don’t know what’s stopping us.

Good luck in your new classes. You’ll do awesome.

Don’t take any guff from those academic bastards!
