Courtney Complaining About a Coffeeshop, a College Career, and Canines

All of the sudden, I’m done with school for the semester, and done with Ivy Tech, hopefully, forever. I knew I had only a few assignments left but when I took my final in Biology this afternoon I realized that was it. Done. Finished!

I went to see an advisor this afternoon and our conversation was not helpful, to say the least. He had no idea why I was assigned to him based on my concentration, had no way of accessing or transferring my credits, and said things like “Well, you might start thinking about what you want to do when you graduate. Some classes we have in English are pretty real world-y.” “Real world-y?” I didn’t bother to correct the guy and mention that I’d already been in the “real world” something like fifteen years considering I had my first full time job before I graduated high school.

I took the dogs for a walk after I got home and stopped by work for an iced tea with lemonade. Annie asked me if I could get her a schedule for the summer. Then it hit me that not only do I have nothing going on this summer but dental appointments, I also have no money. I really wanted to take some kind of course at the Art Center, but it’s difficult to justify coming up with the money (or asking Charlie for it) when I’m already spending every last dime I have saved or on credit to get a variety of root canals.

Most of the Art Center’s classes are either 6:30 at night or 9am on Mondays. Or, of course, weekends. This works well for other people, those who have “normal” jobs. But since I need to work the most amount of hours possible, that means being at work till 8 at night or getting there at 6am. Unless I get promoted to shift supervisor when Sarah leaves for graduate school, in which case I’d have to be there at 5:30 in the morning. And she isn’t leaving until right before classes begin, so that wouldn’t work for me. And since I got nothing accomplished with the advisor today, I still have no clue what my course schedule will be like in the fall. Will I even be able to work at the coffeeshop and take classes in the mornings?

I’ll have to figure something out soon, huh?
